Welcome to my website

My name is Lucy Swinburne, I'm a pastel portrait artist specialising in animal and pet portraits but am also keen on people and family portraits too!

I have always had a love of animals, domestic and wildlife inclusive. At home we currently have two Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs (Zack and Max), a Border Collie (Gemma) and a rescue cat (China) and I am always trying to resist extending the family further!  Recently, we rescued a red Staffie puppy whom we have called Kesha and she has become Max's new best play mate!  That WILL be it for now on the animal front... Throughout the year most weekends are spent selling my portraits and taking on new commissions at dog agility events. The most popular breed by far is the Collie, hence why there are so many of them in my dog art gallery. I am totally in my element surrounded by dogs and their enthusiastic owners!

Please don’t hesitate in contacting me whether it is to leave a comment, ask about forthcoming workshops in pastels or enquiries regarding commissions as I would love to hear from you.

I hope you enjoy looking at my website.  I have a new step-by-step article coming out later this year (2010) in The Leisure Painter magazine.......watch this space for more details! (updated 12/6/10)

About me

Lucy Swinburne - The Pastel ArtistI trained as a Graphic Designer in 1988 but spent the following 10 enjoyable years working as a print estimator and account executive.

Since 2001 I have been successfully completing commissions for clients’ and demonstrating and exhibiting at Dog Agility shows in the UK. I was selected as a finalist from 10,500 entries in the Daily Mail’s first “Not the Turner Prize” competition in 2003 and subsequently exhibited at the Mall Galleries. I also write articles for the Leisure Painter magazine.

Over the last three years I have been holding regular artist workshops, where I tutor students in my pastel technique. These painting workshops are based on animal subjects, wildlife or domestic and more recently, people portraits. I also provide individual tuition, demonstrate for art groups and run a private class in Hertfordshire.
